Why you should not Keep your Wallet in your Back Pocket?
Yes, your Fat wallet may lead you to surgery, Here's How
What is Fat Wallet Syndrome?
Fat wallet syndrome is a neuromuscular condition, where the wallet is compressing the sciatic nerve and the piriformis muscle. Over the last couple of decades wallets are become bigger, the number of cards we carry, coins, paper receipts, and business cards have all led to the increased girth of our wallets.
When we sit with a wallet in our back pocket we sit with a slight tilt of the pelvis.
Discomfort in sitting is bearable, you can manage it but what does it lead to? How does it affect you?
Fat Wallet can initiate two kinds of pains
1. It can compress the piriformis Muscle, which functions to externally rotate your hip when walking. That in turn can irritate the sciatic nerve. Its branches travel either above, below, or right through the piriformis (varying for each person) from the lower back through the hips and buttocks and down each leg.
2. A back pocket fat wallet may also compress several of the sciatic nerve roots exiting the lower back, resulting in pain down the back of the thigh, calf, and foot, pain when walking up stairs or incline or reduced range of motion of the hip joint.
Symptoms of Fat Wallet Syndrome

- Pain in the contralateral sacroiliac joint
- Numbness in the foot and difficulty in walking
